It's a new day
moon
[info]jubal51394
Uranus is the oddball of the solar system. For starters, it rolls along its side -- on its equator -- instead of spinning upright in its orbit the way planets typically do. Uranus is also in retrograde for more than five months out of every Earth year.

Uranus, the planet of rebellion, turns direct on December 1. Astrologically, Uranus liberates you from the shackles of convention and applies pressure to change whatever is stagnant in your life.

Uranus rules electromagnetic energy and is like a lightning storm that creates chaos as it cleans the air, revealing a fresh new world once the storm has cleared.

It is a new day -- almost a new year -- and the road ahead needs your help in paving it. It’s not every year that Uranus turns direct within hours of a full Moon! (The full Moon in Gemini occurs on December 1 PST, and December 2 EST). This year, your desire for independence and freedom is heightened, and the full Moon dials up your emotions even more.

How much did we(the taxpayers) pay the Secret Service to protect our President from those "gate crashers" at that state dinner?

And do we get our money back?

Counting the minutes...
moon
[info]jubal51394

Just in case anyone out there has missed this fact, I am counting the minutes
until "my precious baby", [info]angelpsalm , arrives here from Alaska. in 6 days!
She's my baby and I miss her every single minute of every single day.
(Mother's DO that! She may be 30 but she's still my baby!)

She was here to visit once in March of 1998 and I saw her and [info]still_althea
in Florida in September of 2005.

Everybody knows that she's my favorite... except her.

Her siblings don't really mind. They were all teenagers when she was born
so they love heralmost as much as I do.

They used to wander around the house when she was an infant singing,
"Shes the baby! Gotta love her!"

She's arriving in Dallas on Dec 6th.

I'm to Oklahoma's Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City on the 8th to have
this angioplasty and stent procedure.

ANGIOPLASTY and STENT

She will stay here and care for my house and my pets... and me, if need be,
when I get home.

My new chair...

I threw my favorite blanket over my new chair and went looking for some of my other essentials, like my meds...

but when I got back, there was this huge alien lump in my beautiful new chair.

All the animals love the way it smells. I suspect some other critter used to own it.

For now... this one does!

So... here we have...

A $75 recliner for me to sleep in. Honey knows this neat old guy over in Longtown who collects this stuff.

Naturally... Honey being Honey, the entire living room must be cleaned before I can sit in it.

I'll wait, gladly.

Health update...

Most of the day I feel fine but very tired. I either sit on the sofa or at my computer all day. I don't do much because exerting myself makes me gasp for breath and if I do too much I get some pressure in my chest, sometimes even chest pain... and I prefer to not be alone in the middle of Nowhere when that happens.

When 5 o'clock rolls around and I drag my butt to the kitchen and my meds, I almost always
have real bad chest pain just from getting myself there from the other end of the house. It is painfully obvious that my meds are doing their job because when their time runs out my heart tells me about it... loud and clear!

I take my pills at 5 but it takes a while for them to work so I usually spend the next 3
hours or so managing the pains with nitro. For now, I am carrying my little nitro bottle around with me wherever I go.

Lying down is likely to bring on pain so I'm sleeping sitting up on the sofa. Lately
I've been having some trouble walking around like to the bathroom. The meds make me dizzy.

Today Honey is going out to find a comfy, used, recliner for me so we can both sleep in the same room and he will be there if I need his help.

Honey is also planning to go visit our local volunteer ambulance people to let them know ahead of time what my condition is before they have to come here cold and try to figure it out.

(I'm thinking I should probably keep him, huh?)

I have no doubt that this upcoming trip to OKC is completely necessary and that an angioplasty WILL improve my condition so I am really looking forward to it.

If it doesn't make things some better, I don't know what I will do.

Perspectives again...

When I lived in New England my Thanksgiving television fair was all about Pilgrims and Plymouth rock.

Here in Oklahoma my public TV station gives me...

Indians, of course!

Way of the Warrior

The experiences of Native Americans who served in World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War are recalled via interviews and comments from family members and friends. Included: Ira Hayes, one of the Iwo Jima flag raisers; and Mitchell Red Cloud, a Medal of Honor recipient in the Korean War.

It's fascinating!

Today I am thankful for...

  1. He shows up late.
  2. Eats your cookie.
  3. Empties his sack.
  4. Only comes once.
  5. Calls you a "Ho".
  6. And leaves while you're sleeping.

All this fuss about Adam Lambert kissing a guy on national television... and I missed it!

So... naturally... being me... I went looking for it.

No big deal! The kiss did nothing to me or for me, either way. I'm a 60+ little old lady from New England. If I can handle it, who is it out there who can't?

I was impressed at how he's matured musically since Idol. I actually loved most of this performance. Except... I can listen to him slide up to his intended pitch just so many times before it starts to hurt my gut.

Now! That... WAS offensive! Once or twice for dramatic impact but...

Enough is enough already!

So... if you missed it too, here it is! The kiss is at 3:25 in case you'd rather not watch.

I had just turned 20 years old...

I was riding in my mother's 1963 Ford station wagon in City Hall Square. She was taking me to an appointment with my OB/GYN carrying my only son in my belly when the first announcement came over the car radio.

My life to this point had been decidedly idyllic.

This was the moment that ugly reality transformed me into an instant adult.
This was the moment that I learned that horrifying unthinkable things really could happen in my perfect little world.

A funny thing happened on the way to my heart diagnosis...

[info]jubal51394
I've probably mentioned before that I was a vegetarian when I met Honey. Back then, he was having none of that nonsense. "A man can't work his butt off all day eating grass," he'd say.

For a while I tried cooking separately for him and me but... red meat is so palatable! You just try cooking the perfect, "pink in the middle burger"... and then not eating it!

We've
been together now for 16 years. Over that time... I slipped back into eating yummy things that I knew were quietly killing me, a little at a time.

Then, last week, he spent the most of it watching all those tests they did on me... and listening to all those health professionals explaining what saturated fats were doing to me.

Suddenly, it all became so important to him. By the end of the week, his blood pressure was way up and he was having symptoms. No big surprise to me. He's always been "suggestible" that way.

Then... HE DECIDED that I should put together a "heart smart" grocery list for us
so we can get our heathier eating habits instituted ASAP.

Today... he is off to WalMart with a shopping list. Just about everything on it is unfamiliar to him. He has already called twice. Thank God he has a cell phone!

He's going to
be exhausted when he gets home from all this thinking! Men!

The best thing about Fall anywhere in this country is...
*drumroll please*
CRANBERRIES!

They only appear in Oklahoma grocery stores in the Fall. That's easier than it seems. I buy
12 bags of fresh cranberries (that's one for each month) and throw them in the freezer as is... right in the bags. Yeah there are other, much more complicated recommended ways to do this... but this works. It ain't broke so I don't bother to fix it.

http://www.cranberries.org

Health Benefits of Cranberries Come in a Variety of Forms

"Cranberries contain bacteria-blocking compounds that are believed to be helpful in
preventing urinary tract infections, and scientists now think this same function may be useful in blocking the bacteria responsible for ulcers and certain oral bacteria that can lead to gum disease. Current research indicates that approximately 10 ounces of cranberry juice cocktail is needed daily to achieve the bacteria-blocking benefits that ward off UTIs, ulcers and gum disease. You can get these benefits in an array of cranberry products. For round-the-clock protection, snack or cook with one of these products at least once a day."

Yes, Virginia... once a day. That's easier and cheaper than OJ!

"Fresh cranberries are available in stores mid-September through December. They are most abundant during peak harvest season-October and November. Cranberries may be stored in the refrigerator for up to four weeks. Before using, sort and rinse cranberries in running water. Buy fresh cranberries in season, then freeze them to enjoy them all year long. To freeze fresh cranberries, double wrap them in plastic without washing. When using frozen cranberries in your recipes or formulas, no thawing is necessary. In fact, best results are obtained without thawing."

Try boiling a handful and dropping a spoonful into your tea.

Or Cranberry-Orange Relish on your oatmeal?

Cranberry-Orange Relish

1 bag fresh cranberries

1 whole navel orange, preferably organic, skin included, washed and cut into chunks
1/2 cup shelled pecans
1/3 cup mild honey, such as clover

Place all the ingredients in a food processor and pulse, then blend until you have a
uniform, very finely chopped mixture with a crunchy texture. Chill until ready to serve.
